We propably couldn´t find another group of people with so many true compatriots as the Czech diaspora. When we have had the opportunity to visit our countrymen and women abroad, we have been filled with admiration at their cultural loyality. Their anthusiasm for their cultral roots is shown throught activities such as embroidery and restoration of traditional Czech folk costumes, singing of national folk songs and dancing folk dances. Sometimes those of us who still have our homeland within freach feel ashamed that we only rarely find time and energy to enjoy the creatibity of our folk customs such as learning and performing Czech folk songs and dances and creating ancient handicrafts in order to keep our traditional arts alive and loved by coming generations. So, please join us in supporting and promoting our cultural heritage and respecting our roots through an opportunity to view and experience the art of the Czech diaspora! Let us come together at

The 1st Foklore Festival of the Czech Diaspora in Prague
5.-11.11.2007 in Hotel Pyramida ****

The first folklore festival to recognize the art of the Czech diaspora will be held between November 5-11. It has been organized by Seven Rays, a civic association, and the FOS.
We hertily invite our countrymen and women and singing and dansing groups to participle in the festival's parade. We encourage both individuals and our countrymen and women's associations to bring traditional folk handicrafts and other interesting things for a small exhibition which will be displayed during the time of the festival. The festival will include folk dance instruction, handicrafts, and home videos od documentary films about our compatriots abroad, and common traditions in Czech cuisine. Festival guests will be offered opportunities to meet interesting people from abroad throught trips and excursions. A documentary of the festival on DVD will be available for purchase.

the festival follows UNSCO huidelines, UNESCO recommendations for saving traditional and folk culture and to the UNESCO convention for saving non-material cultural heritage. Through doing so, we unite with the world movement to save and preserve folk traditions and heritage fot future generations. The idea of creating a festival to clebrate the Czech Diaspora arose out of a Countrymen and Countrywomen's Initiative. It is supported by a resolution developed Sept. 17-22, 2006 at a weekend event sponcored by Czechs living abroad.

The planning committee wishes you a pleasant festival week and many positive experiences.
